Surface Finishes and Secondary Operations for Plastic Parts

Specify the appearance, surface texture, and assembly requirements for your CNC machined plastic parts. BatchMach Precision reviews finishing options against the material grade and part geometry, with critical dimensions and functional surfaces identified before processing.

As-Machined & Deburred

As-Machined & Deburred surface finish sample

Retain the machined surface with visible tool marks while removing burrs from edges and holes. A practical choice for functional components where appearance is secondary. Edge breaks follow drawing requirements to protect sealing edges and mating features.

Polishing

Polishing surface finish sample

Reduce machining marks and improve the appearance of accessible surfaces. For transparent PMMA and PC components, the polishing method is selected around the material, geometry, and required clarity. Viewing areas and critical dimensions should be specified separately.

Bead Blasting

Bead Blasting surface finish sample

Create a more uniform matte texture on suitable plastics. Media and pressure require review for each material, particularly on soft plastics and thin sections. Tight-tolerance features, sealing faces, and transparent viewing areas can be masked where required.

Painting & Coating

Painting & Coating surface finish sample

Apply specified colors and gloss levels to cosmetic surfaces such as housings and covers. Coating adhesion depends on the plastic and surface preparation. Materials such as PE, POM, and PTFE require particular assessment before painting is confirmed.

Threaded Inserts

Threaded Inserts surface finish sample

Add metal threads at fastening points that require repeated assembly. Insert type and installation method are selected to suit the plastic, available wall thickness, and loading requirements. Specify the thread size, insert position, and any pull-out or torque requirements.

Part Marking

Part Marking surface finish sample

Add part numbers, revision codes, logos, or assembly references through engraving, printing, or laser marking where compatible. The method depends on the material, color, and required contrast, with markings positioned clear of critical functional surfaces.

From Plastic Prototypes to Repeat Production

BatchMach Precision produces custom plastic components for design validation, small-batch purchasing, and repeat orders. We plan each stage around your drawing revision, material grade, order quantity, and inspection requirements.

Plastic Prototype Machining

Start with a single part to check assembly fit, movement, and function in your specified plastic grade. Before machining, we review thin walls, deep cavities, and mating features, so you can address manufacturing concerns before committing to the prototype.

Low-Volume Production

For pilot builds and small batches, we prepare material, workholding, and machining sequences around the required quantity. First-piece inspection confirms the setup before the batch proceeds. In-process checks focus on mating surfaces, hole positions, and other critical features to keep machined plastic parts consistent for assembly.

Repeat Production

When you reorder, we check the latest drawing and material requirements against the previous job. Proven programs, fixtures, and inspection records provide the starting point for production. If a dimension, material grade, or acceptance requirement has changed, we review the affected operations before machining the next batch.

From Plastic Prototypes to Repeat Production

Quality Inspection for CNC-Machined Plastic Parts

At BatchMach Precision, precision plastic machining includes inspection based on your critical dimensions, assembly datums, and application requirements. From material verification to final release, we check machining results and assess changes in part shape and dimensions after unclamping.

Material & Drawing Verification

/01

Material & Drawing Verification

Before machining, we verify the material grade, filler type, drawing revision, and special requirements. Critical mating dimensions and inspection datums are identified in advance. For glass-filled, carbon-filled, and other modified plastics, incoming stock is checked against the specified grade to prevent material substitutions.

Dimensional & Geometric Inspection

/02

Dimensional & Geometric Inspection

We use ZEISS and Hexagon CMMs alongside suitable gauges to inspect hole positions, flatness, and mating dimensions according to part geometry and tolerance requirements. Part support and contact force are considered to limit measurement-induced deformation. Temperature- and moisture-sensitive materials are inspected under agreed conditions.

Final Inspection & Documentation

/03

Final Inspection & Documentation

Before shipment, we check burrs, scratches, edge condition, threads, and markings as required, and verify designated critical features. First article inspection reports (FAI), dimensional inspection reports, and material certificates are available according to order requirements, supporting incoming inspection and traceability.

CNC Plastic Machining FAQ

There is no minimum order quantity. You can start with a single part to verify assembly, movement, and function before placing a larger order.

If you already know your expected production quantity, include it with your prototype request so we can quote both stages. Before moving into production, we confirm the final drawing revision and review any changes needed to the machining and inspection plans.

Simple parts made from available stock materials, with no special finishing requirements, can be machined in as little as one day, subject to drawing review and production availability.

We plan part support, clamping, and cutting sequences around the material and geometry. Where needed, roughing and finishing are separated, and dimensions are checked after the part is released from its fixture.

Annealing is not necessary for every part. The decision depends on material supplier guidance, stock condition, material removal, and dimensional stability requirements. Parts with a higher distortion risk may benefit from intermediate stress relief and inspection after stabilization.

Yes. BatchMach Precision operates through two owned CNC factories in Beijing and Dongguan, supported by a selected manufacturing partner network.

We assign production resources according to the material, part geometry, and inspection requirements. You work through one project contact for drawing clarification, quotations, production updates, and delivery documentation.

We machine critical features to tolerances as tight as ±0.005 mm.

CNC machining is a practical choice when you need parts made from a specified plastic stock grade, want to test actual material performance, or require precise mating dimensions and machined surfaces. It requires no injection mold, making it suitable for functional prototypes, small batches, and designs that may still change.

3D printing may be better suited to internal geometries that cutting tools cannot reach. Injection molding becomes worth considering when the design is stable and production quantities justify the tooling investment. BatchMach Precision reviews your geometry, material, quantity, and purchasing plans to help compare these options.

We plan first-piece, in-process, and final inspections around your drawings. ZEISS and Hexagon CMMs, together with suitable gauges, are used to check critical dimensions and geometric features. For soft or thin-walled parts, we consider support and contact force to reduce measurement-induced deformation.

First article inspection reports (FAI), dimensional inspection reports, and material certificates are available according to order requirements. Please specify documentation, sampling, and any features requiring 100% inspection when requesting a quote.
